The best way to visit Greve is to come by car from Florence or Sienna along Route 222, the very attractive "Chiantigiana" highway passing through the Chianti wine area. Visitors to the area arriving from Rome can leave the motorway at Incisa Val d'Arno. From the west, there is a road connecting with the highway at Tavarnelle or S. Donato. This road passes the monastery at Badia a Passignano and the village of Montefioralle.
There is metered parking in the main piazza and two large, free parking areas within five minutes walk of the town centre (map).

It is also possible to reach Greve by Autolinee Toscane bus from Florence. The bus station is 100 yards to the left of the Railway Station (SMN). The trip takes one hour. There are two routes, via Grassina and via Ferrone. The Grassina road is the "Chiantigiana". In summer, from mid-June to the end of July, there is a bus connection from Florence to Sienna through Greve on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It passes through Greve at 8.30 am and takes another hour to reach Sienna. For the timetable, ask at the SITA station in Florence or at the outlets in Greve that sell the tickets (e.g. Café Lepanto, Piazza Matteotti). In other seasons, you have to return to Florence and take the express bus via the motorway to Sienna. |
