The picturesque villages in the Colline del Chianti to the east are also within easy reach by car &#8211; <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a title=\"Volpaia\" href=\"https:\/\/www.volpaia.info\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #3399ff; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Volpaia<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a title=\"Gaiole in Chianti\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gaiole-in-chianti.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #3399ff; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Gaiole in Chianti<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a title=\"Radda in Chianti\" href=\"https:\/\/www.radda-in-chianti.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #3399ff; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Radda in Chianti<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/span> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a title=\"Castelnuovo Berardenga\" href=\"https:\/\/www.greve-in-chianti.com\/tuscany\/castelnuova-berardenga\/\"><span style=\"color: #3399ff; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Castelnuovo Berardenga<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/span>, for example.<\/p>\n<p>The main street of Castellina is limited to pedestrians and is well-provided with cafes, restaurants, groceries and fruit and vegetable shops. Castellina also has an incredibly good gelato shop on the corner where the main road heads for Greve.<\/p>\n<p>While definitely a good place for R&amp;R, Castellina has a small but good museum housing some local Etruscan antiquities among other things, a quite unusual covered or vaulted street under the fortifications, and a major Etruscan tomb nearby.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Castellina Chianti Wine Festival<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A wine festival takes place in Castellina every <strong>Pentecost Sunday and the preceding Friday and Saturday<\/strong>, with wine tasting stalls being set up in the vaulted street under the town wall. As with the wines fairs in <a title=\"Vino al Vino\" href=\"https:\/\/www.panzano.com\/important-dates\/important-dates-eng.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #3399ff;\"><strong>Panzano<\/strong><\/span><\/a> and <a title=\"Greve wine festival\" href=\"https:\/\/www.greve-in-chianti.com\/en\/2010_wine_festival.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #3399ff;\"><strong>Greve<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, you buy a glass from the Secretariat and are then able to taste a certain number of wines for free. The glass cost 10 euros, last time I was there. There are usually around 20-50 exhibitors, each with between 3 and 6 wines.
