| A Roman “opus doliare” stamp, depicting Hercules and inscribed in Greek with the letters ΕΡΑ = Era (klesa) = Hercules, was found near Podere Barberino. These stamps were used to imprint the maker's name on domestic pottery in Roman times, suggesting that the clays used in this area to make terracotta were known by the Romans. |
