Some Tuscany tour notes

• Traffic is lighter on weekends, especially Sundays, so plan your tour for a weekend if you can.

• There is a reasonably interesting antiques and bric-à-brac market in Arezzo on the first Saturday and Sunday of every month.

• The Giostra del Saracino is a spectacular jousting festival that takes place twice per year in Arezzo, on the last but one Saturday of June, at night (the so-called San Donato Joust, dedicated to the patron saint of the town) and on the first Sunday of September, in the afternoon (the September Joust).

Every May in Cortona there is a week-long festival culminating in the Joust of the Archidado, a crossbow competition by archers representing the five quadrants of the city.
