Our newly-restored vacation rental apartment is located below the walls of the fortified village of Montefioralle, about 3 km from Greve in Chianti. There is plenty of parking space, a private garden and a children's playground nearby. Montefioralle has an excellent restaurant, and there are several good restaurants within walking distance in Greve.
Casa Forese
The kitchen/dining room is large and contains a gas cooker, oven, refrigerator and dishwasher. Furnishings are in traditional Tuscan style.
Montefioralle, which belonged to the Buondelmonti and Ricasoli families, was originally a castle with a central keep and thick walls. The walls now contain houses and the church is built on the highest part of the hill top. As late as the mid 18 C, Montefioralle had a larger population than Greve, but as the wars between Florence and Siena ceased and the population outgrew the castle, there was a shift in population to the area of the market on the river Greve, Mercato di Greve - now Greve in Chianti. Inside Montefioralle there is a house reputed to be the birthplace of Amerigo Vespucci.

Montefioralle can be reached from Florence, Siena, Figline (when coming by autostrada from Rome) and from the Florence-Siena autostrada exit at Sambuca passing Badia a Passignano on the way.
From Florence or the A1 superstrada exit Firenze Certosa, take the highway 222 through Strada towards Greve. On the outskirts of Greve, at the tourist information office, take the turn to the right to Montefioralle. At Montefioralle, take the road with the double traffic light downhill to Casa Forese (300 m).
It is possible to reach Greve by comfortable pullman buses from Florence and then to take a taxi or walk to Casa Forese. The upward climb is fairly stiff but going down to Greve is an easy and very pleasant stroll.
